Project Coordinator, Sint Eustatius

The Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD) works to promote peaceful, just and inclusive democracy worldwide. To that end, and together with our global network, we work with the entire political sector in a country, from aspiring politicians to political leaders and from the national to the local level. We promote dialogue, we strengthen the capacities of political actors, and we train young and established leaders. Currently, we run programmes in around twenty countries in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Southeast Asia, and the MENA region.  

Specifically to support our work in Statia, Saba, and Bonaire, from April until 31 December 2026, NIMD is look for a: 

Project Coordinator

Preferably located in Sint Eustatius, Saba or Bonaire

About the Role 

As NIMD’s Project Coordinator, your key responsibility will be to successfully implement the political party support on Statia and democracy training on Statia, Saba and Bonaire. You will lead NIMD’s work on the ground. You will work closely together with relevant members of the NIMD team in The Hague to ensure high-quality programming, effective project implementation and smooth financial administration.  

Main Tasks & Responsibilities

Project Management 

  • Support facilitation of the Political Dialogue Platform Statia, including logistics support to organize the session, analysis and preparation ahead of every dialogue session, evaluation and follow up. 
  • Implement three Democracy Academies in Statia, Saba, and Bonaire, including operational management. 
  • Support to strengthening political parties on Statia. 
  • Coordinate project implementation and financial management of the project in line with NIMD requirements. 
  • Ensure an effective line of communication and coordination between consultants on the ground and The Hague team. 

Representation 

  • Represent NIMD in Statia, Saba and Bonaire towards political actors, democratic institutions, civil society actors and other stakeholders relevant to strengthening the political parties. 
  • Promote NIMD’s core principles of impartiality, inclusiveness, diversity, local ownership and long-term commitment in every interaction with stakeholders as well as in every external communication;
  • Function as the main point of contact towards partners, beneficiaries and the media;  
  • Liaise with political and civil society actors to foster political participation. 

Strategic management and stakeholder engagement 

  • Establish and maintain relations with key actors in Statia, Bonaire and Saba including political parties, political associations, parliament, government offices, civil society organizations and other relevant stakeholders and develop strategies for engagement and support together with these partners. 
  • Support the facilitation of the political actor dialogue processes and capacity development of key stakeholders. 
  • Ensure timely and quality inputs from advisors and consultants contracted for the implementation of the political party cluster of the project. 

Requirements

  • A deep understanding of the Caribbean region; 
  • Experience in politics and understanding of the local political culture; 
  • Experience with implementing democracy/civic education programmes, facilitation or training;
  • 5 years of experience in project management; 
  • Strong diplomatic and inter-cultural skills; 
  • High sensitivity to the complexities of personal relations in politics; 
  • Deep understanding of the sensitivities in the Dutch political landscape generally, and on Statia specifically; 
  • Residing on Statia, Bonaire or Saba;
  • Speaks English, Dutch and/ or Papiamento
  • A strong committment to NIMD’s guiding principles of Impartiality, Inclusiveness, Flexibility, Local ownership and Long-term commitment.
