The 6th edition of the Myanmar School of Politics (MySoP) Alumni Weekend started on November 25th in Bagan, Myanmar. Entitled ‘Federalism: Facts & Fantasies, the Weekend brought together close to 120 high level politicians from over 30 different political parties, all former and current participants of MySoP programmes. Launch of 9th edition of MySoP political training in Myanmar

The 9th edition of the Myanmar School of Politics (MySoP) core course started in Tanintharyi Region on 22 July 2017. Chief Minister Dr. Lai Lai Maw opened the 16-day training retreat with a speech noting the importance of politicians contributing to their societies, and that a politician should never stop trying to improve oneself in order to continue to increase that contribution. The Tanintharyi Chief Minister herself is an alumni of the very first MySoP core course in 2014. Graduation day at the Myanmar School of Politics

On 3 April, 19 politicians from Kayah State graduated from the Myanmar School of Politics (MySoP). These leadership level politicians represent 10 different political parties as well as the Kayah State election sub-commission. They have successfully completed 8th edition of the MySoP core course, a 20-day learning retreat aimed at improving their capacities and constructive, policy-oriented political engagement. Politics Meets Policies: The Emergence of Programmatic Political Parties (Myanmar language translation 2016) is a Myanmar School of Politics and International IDEA co-publication and Myanmar translation of the latter’s 2014 book by the same title. It is based on the work carried out by three teams of political scientists who examined what drives and strengthens programmatic politics, even under unlikely conditions. The publication offers food for thought for political parties that are struggling to shift from personality-based or clientelistic-focused approaches—to more programme-based strategies as they reach out to voters.

On 9-13 December 2016, alumni from the Myanmar School of Politics (MySoP) came together for an alumni event, titled ‘The Art of Political Speech’, in Bago, Myanmar. 56 alumni from 22 different political parties attended the event, where they participated in three different workshops: one on speechwriting, one on the importance of art and poetry, and one on debate skills. Myanmar School of Politics: Alumni weekend on ‘The Power of Political Dialogue’

On 16-18 July, the Myanmar School of Politics (MySoP) alumni gathered together for a four-day alumni event, titled ‘The Power of Political Dialogue’ in Hpa’an, Kayin State, Myanmar. 37 alumni from 17 different political parties attended the event. Trainers at the event included former Dutch MP, Kathleen Ferrier (see photo), and Executive Director of the National Peace Council of Sri Lanka, Jehan Perera.
