Young people for democracy: A training course in Guatemala
25-11-2019

As part of our programme for the democratic participation of youth in Guatemala, NIMD held a training course, bringing together young people from across the country.

The training took place on 8-10 November. During this time, the participants took part in a number of interactive activities, including reflections on the Mayan cosmovision, forum theatre exercises and an analysis of the socioeconomic context.

The course was rounded off with a session with elected MPs, in which all participants shared their common visions and proposals for multiparty politics.

NIMD launched the programme for the democratic participation of youth this year, with support from the Swedish Embassy to Guatemala. The programme aims to train young people with leadership skills, especially those from groups underrepresented in politics. Through the programme, we train young people and women from cities and rural areas, including people from indigenous groups, people with disabilities and members of the LGBTQI+ community.
