About us
NIMD works to promote peaceful, just, and inclusive democracy worldwide. To that end, we work with the entire political sector in a country, from aspiring politicians to political leaders, and from the national to the local level. Together with our network we promote dialogue, we strengthen the capacities of political actors, and we train young and established leaders in our Democracy Schools. Currently, NIMD runs programmes in around twenty countries in Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and the MENA region. To learn more about what we do and where we work see www.nimd.org.
NIMD employs around 130 people working globally in our country offices located across Africa, the Middle East region, Latin America, and Central and Southeast Asia. Our headquarters are in The Hague, the political capital of the Netherlands. Here we have an experienced and committed international staff of over 30 colleagues who support our global programming. The staff in The Hague comprises of four core teams: Programmes & Knowledge, Grants Management, Positioning, and Finance, Control & Support. Our working culture is informal and open, and encourages initiative and professionalism.
The internship
As part of the internship, you will join one of our teams in The Hague and learn how we operate based on a combination of our regular activities at NIMD and your own specific learning focus. The specificities of your day-to-day can differ per internship cycle and will be provided in a separate description when the internship cycle opens. Each internship cycle runs for around 4-6 months between January-June or September-December each year.
Conditions
The internship would be for 24 hours a week and includes being available on Tuesdays and Thursdays. As an NIMD intern you receive a compensation of €750 (gross) per month plus a full reimbursement of all work-related travel.
For the duration of the internship, you are eligible for one leave day accumulated per working month. Partly working from home is possible upon agreement with the internship supervisor.
It is preferred that there is a three-party agreement between NIMD, the student and their academic institute or a formal letter from the institute that they are in agreement with the internship. Furthermore, any internship agreement or learning plan from your academic institution will need to be discussed during the selection process.
It is important that you already have a permit to work in The Netherlands and physically available in the office in The Hague.
