From cooperation models built on equal partnership to proactive action against autocratic threats, protecting and expanding civic space, and a bold upholding of democratic values and the rule of law, resistance is proving just as contagious as autocratization itself. Youth and civil society movements are at the forefront, sharing tactics and lessons across borders in ways that mirror how autocrats coordinate and learn from one another. As the article argues, if resistance is going to safeguard democracy’s future, it needs to be just as coordinated, networked and flexible as the forces it’s up against.
