Project Manager, NIMD Ethiopia

The Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD) works to promote peaceful, just, and inclusive democracy worldwide. Our headquarters are in The Hague (Netherlands), where we have an experienced and committed international staff of around 30 colleagues who support our global programming. PROJECT MANAGER

Addis Abba, Ethiopia

This position is for project manager for the project Supporting Sudan’s Political Transition through Democracy Education (SuDac). The duration of this contract is 1 year with possibility of extension.

Functions and Key Results Expected

Working closely with and under direction from the NIMD Country Director, the Project Manager will execute the activities and operations of the Sudan Democracy Academy (SuDAc) to achieve its objectives. This means that the Project Manager is responsible for the success of the project according to the agreed working plan and time table by ensuring full responsibility for the activities and outcomes mentioned in the project document.

This includes and is not limited to:

Project Management- planning and implementation

  • Responsible for the implementation of the project in timely and cost-effective manner and ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of the agreement which NIMD entered with the donor.
  • Follow adherence to donor and NIMD organizational policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Develop work plans at project level and ensure timely implementation of the planned activities.
  • Prepare reports timely and to the required quality for Donor, Government and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare comprehensive and detailed terms of reference (TOR) for consultancy services.
  • Comply with organizational filing and documentation processes.

Finance and grant management

  • Participate in the development of sound selection criteria and guidelines for identifying partners and document the decision-making process by collaborating with the finance and support manager.
  • Provide advice and guidance to partners with regards to technical, human, commodity and financial matters and reporting requirements.
  • Participate in relevant meetings with partners and review grant reports.
  • Identify and report on the needs of partners.
  • Participate in budget realignments and refinements based on discussion and guidance from the finance and support manager and NIMD team in the Hague.

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Ensure the revision of monitoring and evaluation framework as project learning takes place.
  • Ensure collection of data regularly following agreed procedures for data management and reporting.
  • Utilize data and regularly analyse it for reporting and wider planning purposes.

Sudan Democracy School

  • Prepare training plans for for instance, educational and delivery model, content of education, define target recipient’s demographic, and recruitment channels, tentative target dates, target recipient geography.
  • Identify and nominate experts who will develop the training material where applicable.
  • Identify and nominate the trainers who will deliver the various training and prepare Terms of Reference for trainers.
  • Develop instructions for the experts and trainers to develop the content and how to deliver the training and to lead the meetings with the experts and trainers in preparation for the training and plan with them fully on details of the training.
  • Drive the process of preparation of the training material with the experts including review of the material content and approval.
  • Lead the setup and delivery of the rounds of training including following up and driving the logistical arrangements, readiness of the material to be used and / or distributed in sessions, supervising the admin staff to make sure all arrangements are done professionally.
  • Follow up on the completion of the training activities including leading the follow up meetings and discussion workshops with the trainers, and evaluation of the trainees.
  • Comply with all reporting needs that NIMD requires as well as deliver any activities that may be deemed necessary to deliver the above mission and that may have not been included in the descriptions.

Special Condition

  • This position is a full-time job based in Addis Ababa, requiring daily presence in the office according to NIMD regulations and directions from the country Director in Ethiopia.
  • Candidates with a solid understanding of the Sudanese context, prior experience working in Sudan or with Sudanese stakeholders, will be considered a strong advantage.

Qualifications

  • MA/BA in social sciences, International Relations, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • At least eight years of work experience in the International development and working with International NGOs/NGOs.
  • Demonstrable experience in the management of programs.
  • Experience in working with political parties and government institutions in Sudan.
  • Fluency in Arabic and English is a must.
  • Strong interest in democracy, governance, political party systems, and international development.
  • Proven ability to work effectively across cultures, in sensitive environments and with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to bring people together and facilitate trust and relationship building between different stakeholders.
  • Efficient, stress-resistant and flexible including to work outside the official working hours.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
