De bevolking van Oekra\u00efne is luid en duidelijk geweest in haar democratische ambities. Sinds het land in 1991 onafhankelijk werd van Rusland, zijn de Oekra\u00efners twee keer de straat op gegaan om een einde te eisen aan de corruptie, de verkiezingsfraude en de buitenlandse inmenging.<\/p>\n

De Maidanrevolutie van 2013 was een duidelijk signaal dat de meeste Oekra\u00efners een toekomst zagen die geworteld was in de waarden van tolerantie, vrijheid en democratie, en ondanks de onvermijdelijke uitdagingen om die ambities waar te maken, was het land op weg naar een betere toekomst.<\/p>\n

Dus toen Rusland zonder aanleiding een aanval op Oekra\u00efne uitvoerde, was dat niet alleen een aanval op een soeverein land, maar ook een aanval op de democratie zelf.<\/p>\n

NIMD werkte van 2016 tot 2020 in Oekra\u00efne samen met onze partner, de Oost-Europees Centrum voor meerpartijendemocratie<\/a>. Door onze Scholen met democratie<\/a>We zijn trots op het enthousiasme van de jongeren die deelnamen aan de cursussen, die allemaal vastbesloten waren om hun nieuwe vaardigheden in te zetten voor het algemeen welzijn van hun land.<\/p>\n

Nu is die vrije en democratische toekomst in gevaar en de hoop en dromen van de volgende generatie staan op het spel.<\/p>\n

Vandaag zijn we solidair met het Oekra\u00efense volk. We moeten allemaal onze inzet verdubbelen om democraten en inclusieve democratische systemen wereldwijd te steunen, want alleen door samen te werken met gedeelde doelen kunnen we opstaan tegen de autocratische ambities die ieders vrede en veiligheid bedreigen.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
