NIMD is diep bedroefd over het overlijden van Daniel Loya, uitvoerend directeur van het Tanzania Centre for Democracy (TCD).\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

TCD is een van de oudste partners van NIMD. Ons programma liep van 2006 tot 2012. Sindsdien zijn we blij dat we met de organisatie, en met Loya als directeur, kunnen blijven samenwerken via het Global Partnership for Multiparty Democracy.<\/em><\/p>\n

Door de jaren heen hebben velen van ons bij het NIMD vriendschap en vertrouwen opgebouwd met Loya. Hij zal erg gemist worden binnen onze organisatie.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Hieronder delen we enkele woorden van Shaun Mackay, NIMD's externe adviseur voor dialoog. Shaun heeft vanaf het begin van NIMD's werk in Afrika nauw samengewerkt met Loya.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

\"De naam Daniel Loya, of kortweg 'Loya' zoals hij liefkozend werd genoemd door zijn collega's en vrienden van de NIMD en de TCD, is synoniem aan de TCD. Hij was erbij vanaf het begin in Tanzania. Hij volgde de eerste Country Coordinator, Prof. A Liviga, op en diende TCD trouw totdat hij deze week helaas overleed.<\/p>\n

Loya was al die jaren een collega en we raakten bevriend; ik kreeg waardering voor zijn unieke gevoel voor humor (die hij niet snel met je deelde totdat hij je begon te vertrouwen) en zijn toewijding aan de interpartijendialoog als middel om de toen nog prille democratie van zijn land te versterken en te onderbouwen. Hij was een bescheiden en bescheiden strijder voor de democratie in zijn land - hij liet de schijnwerpers liever aan de aangesloten politieke partijen over.<\/p>\n

Het ging niet altijd van een leien dakje voor hem en TCD, maar hij zette zich door de vele uitdagingen heen en wist de organisatie overeind te houden. Een hoogtepunt in Loya's dienst aan TCD en de partijen die TCD diende, was toen de Tanzaniaanse regering (als gevolg van lobbywerk door TCD) begon met het financieren van de operaties en activiteiten van de organisatie - iets waar veel andere NIMD-partners in die tijd moeite mee hadden. Ik herinner me hoe we TCD bewonderden voor deze indrukwekkende prestatie.<\/p>\n

En ik was altijd onder de indruk van de brede connecties en het respect dat Loya had voor politici uit het hele politieke spectrum van het land.<\/p>\n

We kunnen wel stellen dat TCD, onder leiding van Loya, gedurende een groot deel van het bestaan van de organisatie een belangrijke rol heeft gespeeld in het politieke leven van Tanzania. Daniel Loya heeft, hoe je het ook bekijkt, een onuitwisbare stempel gedrukt op de mensen en organisaties voor en met wie hij werkte, inclusief zijn collega's en vrienden bij NIMD. Maar bovenal hebben TCD en de partijen die er lid van zijn, een vriend en voorvechter verloren.<\/p>\n
