NIMD kondigt met trots aan dat ons Ethiopische team een certificaat van erkenning heeft ontvangen van de Ethiopische Inter Party Council (IPC). Het certificaat van erkenning kwam er na onze steun aan de door de EU gefinancierde dialoog die wordt uitgevoerd door NIMD Ethiopi\u00eb. De landenvertegenwoordiger van NIMD, Assefa Fiseha, en onze externe adviseur Shaun Mackay waren aanwezig op de bijeenkomst in Addis Abeba om de eer persoonlijk in ontvangst te nemen.<\/p>\n

NIMD is erg blij met deze erkenning van het IPC en we zijn vereerd dat we deel uitmaken van het democratiseringsproces in het land.<\/p>\n

We zijn vooral blij met deze blijk van vertrouwen in de aanloop naar de opening van de Ethiopian Democracy Academy, die later dit jaar haar eerste cohort meerpartijenstudenten zal verwelkomen.<\/p>\n

Wat is de Interpartijraad van Ethiopi\u00eb?<\/strong>
\nDe Interpartijenraad (IPC) is een politiek forum dat alle politieke partijen wil vertegenwoordigen. Het werd in 2019 opgericht als resultaat van een dialoog tussen de partijen en heeft als doel te zorgen voor een vreedzame en minnelijke oplossing van geschillen tussen politieke partijen op basis van de gedragscode die Ethiopische partijen, waaronder de regerende welvaartspartij (toen bekend als EPRDF), in 2019 hebben ondertekend.<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Het IPC ondersteunt de dialoog tussen de politieke partijen in Ethiopi\u00eb (EPPD), een proces dat wordt geleid door de nationale verkiezingsraad van Ethiopi\u00eb (NEBE). De IPC is verantwoordelijk voor de naleving van de gedragscode door de partijen en zal daarom een cruciale rol spelen in het dialoogproces en de manier waarop partijen met elkaar omgaan - zowel binnen als buiten het EPPD-proces. Tijdens het proces is de IPC ook bedoeld om geschillen en misverstanden tussen partijen voor, tijdens en na de verkiezingen aan te pakken.<\/p>\n

Hoe NIMD het IPC ondersteunt<\/strong><\/p>\n

Het certificaat van erkenning werd aan NIMD overhandigd als erkenning voor onze steun aan de dialoog in Ethiopi\u00eb. Sinds de zomer van 2019 werkt NIMD nauw samen met de IPC en NEBE en ondersteunt het het EPPD-proces. Tot nu toe verleent NIMD technische bijstand aan de politieke dialoog over electorale en politieke hervormingen, en ondersteunt het NEBE bij de herziening van zijn programma's en strategische plannen voor burgerkiezerseducatie.<\/p>\n

We ondersteunen ook de technische capaciteit van het IPC zelf en NIMD heeft in december vorig jaar aan 25 leden van het IPC een training gegeven over dialoog en conflictoplossing. Deze capaciteitsversterking werd mogelijk gemaakt met financiering van de Europese Unie.<\/p>\n

Waarom steun voor democratie belangrijk is in Ethiopi\u00eb<\/strong><\/p>\n

Geloofwaardige en inclusieve verkiezingen zijn volgens NIMD de sleutel tot duurzame ontwikkeling. Door samen te werken met partijen en de nationale dialoogprocessen in Ethiopi\u00eb te ondersteunen, willen we partijen en politieke actoren aanmoedigen om het vertrouwen op te bouwen dat eerlijke en oprechte verkiezingen mogelijk maakt.<\/p>\n

Met verkiezingen die later in 2020 gepland staan, zullen dialoogplatforms zoals het EPPD cruciaal zijn om het vertrouwen tussen de partijen te behouden. Door op nationaal niveau samen te werken met IPC en NEBE hoopt NIMD dat vertrouwen tussen de partijen te helpen versterken.<\/p>\n
