De Raad van Toezicht van NIMD is verheugd de benoeming aan te kondigen van Thijs Berman<\/a> als de nieuwe uitvoerend directeur van de organisatie.<\/p>\n

Berman brengt meer dan 30 jaar ervaring in media, politiek en ontwikkeling mee naar NIMD. Meest recentelijk was hij hoofdadviseur van de OVSE-vertegenwoordiger voor mediavrijheid in Wenen. Als voormalig lid van het Europees Parlement zat hij in verschillende commissies, waaronder de Commissie ontwikkelingssamenwerking en de Subcommissie mensenrechten.<\/p>\n

Berman zegt vereerd te zijn dat hij de functie van uitvoerend directeur van NIMD op zich mag nemen:<\/p>\n

\"Ik wil een zinvolle bijdrage leveren aan vrede en stabiliteit door dialoog en inclusieve politiek te stimuleren. Ik geloof sterk in pluriforme samenlevingen en in het vinden van consensuele oplossingen voor controversi\u00eble kwesties.\"<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Berman begon zijn carri\u00e8re als journalist en werkte als radiocorrespondent in onder andere Parijs en Moskou. Daarna werd hij lid van het Europees Parlement voor de PvdA en was hij voorzitter van de Nederlandse sociaaldemocratische delegatie in Brussel. Berman stond ook aan het hoofd van verschillende Europese verkiezingswaarnemingsmissies naar Afghanistan, Ethiopi\u00eb en Senegal, en werkte als teamleider van een Europees programma voor verkiezingsondersteuning in de Centraal-Afrikaanse Republiek.<\/p>\n
