And, according to UN Women, only two countries \u2013 Rwanda and Bolivia \u2013 have 50% or more women in their parliaments.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Faced with such statistics, we have to ask ourselves: Why doesn\u2019t a group that accounts for half of human society hold half of all positions of power and political influence?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>To help answer this question and make steps towards increasing the political participation of women, NIMD and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idea.int\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International IDEA<\/a> held an international conference on women\u2019s political rights, in collaboration with our partner, the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cemi-tunis.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Centre des Etudes M\u00e9diterran\u00e9ennes et Internationales<\/a> (CEMI).<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/250250305\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/250250305\">International Conference on Women&#8217;s Political Rights<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/nimd\">NIMD<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\">Vimeo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The conference, which took place in Hammamet, Tunisia, on 24-26 October, aimed to assist political parties\u2019 in implementing strategies and measures to promote women\u2019s political empowerment and gender equality.<\/p>\n<p>It brought together members of political parties, ministers, MPs and pioneers in the struggle for gender equality for three days of intense learning and debate. The participants discussed gender stereotypes, violence against women in politics, financing for woman politicians and how to ensure men are also involved in achieving gender equality.<\/p>\n<p>The three-day meeting culminated in a <a href=\"http:\/\/nimd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Conclusions-and-recommendations-WPR2017.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series of recommendations<\/a>, which can be implemented by parties in all the countries we work in, and which aim to make it easier for women to access positions of power within those parties.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/240455682\" width=\"640\" height=\"361\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/240455682\">Hon.
