Hemos hablado con el equipo sobre la situaci\u00f3n actual, las barreras estructurales que persisten y qu\u00e9 se necesita para lograr un cambio duradero.<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-women-s-representation-in-burundi-s-elected-bodies-has-increased-significantly-in-recent-years-what-does-the-picture-look-like-today-nbsp\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>La representaci\u00f3n de las mujeres en los \u00f3rganos electos de Burundi ha aumentado considerablemente en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os. \u00bfCu\u00e1l es la situaci\u00f3n actual?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Las elecciones de 2025 supusieron un avance real en Burundi, donde las mujeres ocupan ahora el 46% de los esca\u00f1os del Senado, casi el 39% de la Asamblea Nacional y el 32% de los esca\u00f1os de los ayuntamientos. Todas estas cifras han aumentado desde las elecciones de 2020.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La cuota constitucional de Burundi del 30% para los \u00f3rganos electos, que entr\u00f3 en vigor en 2018, ha contribuido claramente a impulsar estos avances. Sin embargo, el panorama es desigual. Entre los l\u00edderes comunitarios, los jefes de aldea y los consejos de aldea, la representaci\u00f3n de las mujeres sigue siendo especialmente baja, y lo mismo ocurre con los cargos pol\u00edticos y t\u00e9cnicos no electivos, que quedan totalmente fuera del \u00e1mbito de aplicaci\u00f3n de la cuota. As\u00ed pues, aunque las cifras en los niveles m\u00e1s altos son alentadoras, el problema estructural es m\u00e1s profundo.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-are-the-main-barriers-holding-women-back-nbsp\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u00bfCu\u00e1les son los principales obst\u00e1culos que frenan el avance de las mujeres?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Las barreras pueden dividirse en tres tipos principales: culturales, econ\u00f3micas y pol\u00edticas.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Desde el punto de vista cultural, la sociedad burundesa sigue siendo profundamente patriarcal. Los roles pol\u00edticos y econ\u00f3micos se consideran, en general, dominio exclusivo del hombre, mientras que se espera que la mujer cumpla su papel social dedic\u00e1ndose a las tareas del hogar. Por lo tanto, a una mujer que se dedica a la pol\u00edtica se la sigue percibiendo a menudo como alguien que descuida su hogar, un estigma que tiene un efecto disuasorio real para muchas mujeres a la hora de dar el paso.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Persisten las barreras econ\u00f3micas; por ejemplo, el derecho consuetudinario impide que las mujeres hereden tierras, lo que limita su independencia econ\u00f3mica y su capacidad para financiar por s\u00ed mismas una campa\u00f1a pol\u00edtica. Los hombres burundeses no se enfrentan a la misma limitaci\u00f3n.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Y, en el \u00e1mbito pol\u00edtico, incluso las mujeres que logran ser elegidas se ven sometidas a presiones para que sigan la l\u00ednea de su partido en lugar de defender a sus compa\u00f1eras. Sin redes oficiales de solidaridad ni estructuras de tutor\u00eda, las mujeres elegidas pueden encontrarse aisladas e incapaces de impulsar una agenda com\u00fan. El NIMD organiza numerosas actividades para abordar esta cuesti\u00f3n, entre las que destacan: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Debates pol\u00edticos sobre la cuota femenina del 30%;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Charlas informales sobre el liderazgo pol\u00edtico de las mujeres y la democracia inclusiva;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Creaci\u00f3n de una plataforma de mujeres y apoyo a dicha plataforma para que cumpla su mandato. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-nbsp-would-nbsp-make-nbsp-a-real-nbsp-difference-nbsp\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u00bfQu\u00e9 marcar\u00eda realmente la diferencia?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Es necesario que se den varias circunstancias de forma paralela. El empoderamiento econ\u00f3mico es fundamental: mientras las mujeres dependan de los hombres o de las estructuras de los partidos para financiar su participaci\u00f3n pol\u00edtica, seguir\u00e1n siendo vulnerables. Ampliar la cuota para que abarque las elecciones locales y los puestos t\u00e9cnicos permitir\u00eda colmar una de las mayores brechas que a\u00fan persisten. Adem\u00e1s, es necesario que exista un programa de tutor\u00eda pol\u00edtica estructurado y continuo que permita a las l\u00edderes con experiencia transmitir sus conocimientos a la siguiente generaci\u00f3n.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adem\u00e1s de todo esto, es necesario que cambien las normas sociales. Para ello, hay que colaborar con figuras locales influyentes con el fin de cuestionar p\u00fablicamente la idea de que no es adecuado que una mujer se dedique a la pol\u00edtica.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"5472\" height=\"3648\" src=\"http:\/\/nimd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/IMG_9444.JPG-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26500\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-is-nimd-nbsp-burundi-nbsp-doing-to-address-these-challenges-nbsp\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u00bfQu\u00e9 est\u00e1 haciendo el NIMD Burundi para hacer frente a estos retos?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La labor de NIMD Burundi aborda directamente estas barreras en tres \u00e1mbitos.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En lo que respecta a las normas, organizamos conferencias-debates que re\u00fanen a actores pol\u00edticos y figuras de la comunidad para defender el liderazgo pol\u00edtico de las mujeres como un bien democr\u00e1tico \u2014y no como una concesi\u00f3n\u2014 y trabajamos para movilizar a voces locales respetadas con el fin de normalizar p\u00fablicamente la presencia de las mujeres en la pol\u00edtica.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En lo que respecta al empoderamiento econ\u00f3mico, apoyamos a las mujeres que se dedican a la pol\u00edtica para que creen cooperativas multipartidistas, unas estructuras que fomentan la cohesi\u00f3n social entre los distintos partidos y, al mismo tiempo, proporcionan a las mujeres una mayor independencia econ\u00f3mica.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En materia de defensa de derechos y desarrollo de capacidades, una conferencia-debate celebrada en agosto de 2025 puso de relieve la ausencia de cuotas en las elecciones locales y lo que ello supone para la representaci\u00f3n de las mujeres a nivel de base. Tambi\u00e9n hemos impartido sesiones de formaci\u00f3n para partidos pol\u00edticos centradas en una democracia interna inclusiva y sensible a las cuestiones de g\u00e9nero y, m\u00e1s recientemente, en junio de 2026, organizamos una conferencia sobre mentor\u00eda pol\u00edtica, en la que se inst\u00f3 a las mujeres l\u00edderes a invertir en la pr\u00f3xima generaci\u00f3n y a crear coaliciones multipartidistas que puedan impulsar una agenda com\u00fan m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de los ciclos electorales individuales.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1386\" height=\"780\" src=\"http:\/\/nimd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/photo.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26499\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-getting-elected-is-one-thing-but-staying-in-politics-is-another-what-does-it-take-for-women-to-remain-in-positions-of-power-nbsp\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Una cosa es salir elegida y otra muy distinta es mantenerse en la pol\u00edtica. \u00bfQu\u00e9 se necesita para que las mujeres se mantengan en puestos de poder?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aqu\u00ed es donde fallan la mayor\u00eda de los programas de las organizaciones dedicadas a la participaci\u00f3n pol\u00edtica de las mujeres. Se presta mucha atenci\u00f3n a conseguir que las mujeres resulten elegidas, pero no la suficiente a lo que ocurre despu\u00e9s. Una vez en el cargo, las mujeres suelen enfrentarse a presiones para que se ajusten a las posiciones del partido, a acoso pol\u00edtico y social, y al riesgo de perder apoyo \u2014econ\u00f3mico o de otro tipo\u2014 si se salen de la l\u00ednea marcada.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Para paliar esta situaci\u00f3n, es necesario un apoyo constante:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Un programa de mentor\u00eda que contin\u00fae despu\u00e9s de las elecciones, y no solo antes de ellas.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Parejas duraderas de mentoras y mentoradas entre mujeres con experiencia y mujeres reci\u00e9n elegidas.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Redes de solidaridad entre partidos para que ninguna mujer tenga que asumir sola una postura impopular.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Protecci\u00f3n frente al acoso, tanto dentro de las estructuras del partido como en Internet.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Una verdadera independencia econ\u00f3mica, de modo que la retirada del apoyo financiero no pueda utilizarse como instrumento de control.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La cuota abri\u00f3 la puerta, pero mantenerla abierta requiere un enfoque m\u00e1s sostenido.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>NIMD Burundi trabaja para sentar las bases de unas elecciones pac\u00edficas e inclusivas en Burundi mediante el desarrollo de la capacidad interna de los partidos pol\u00edticos; el fortalecimiento del di\u00e1logo, tanto el ya existente como el que est\u00e1 surgiendo, entre los actores pol\u00edticos sobre cuestiones clave; y la garant\u00eda de que las mujeres y los grupos marginados dispongan de la capacidad y el espacio necesarios para influir en la pol\u00edtica.<\/em>&nbsp;<em>Descubre m\u00e1s sobre su trabajo&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/nimd.org\/es\/programme\/burundi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>aqu\u00ed<\/em><\/a><em>.<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NIMD Burundi has been working to strengthen women&#8217;s political leadership for years.&nbsp;We spoke with the team about the current situation, the structural barriers that persist, and what it will take to create lasting change.&nbsp; Women&#8217;s representation in Burundi&#8217;s elected bodies has increased significantly in recent years.
