Jan Tuit joined NIMD in 2002. In his current position as a Programme Manager he focuses on 2 country programmes: Ghana and Bolivia. His prior positions as Senior Policy Officer and Senior Adviser International Relations included a wide range of responsibilities within NIMD.
After graduating at Leiden State University (development sociology) Jan Tuit was employed by a number of Dutch NGOs for a few years before joining the United Nations Development Programme in 1986. Two assignments of 2 years each took him to Jamaica (Junior Professional Officer) and Guinea Bissau (UNCDF Field Implementation Officer).
He subsequently moved to Mali where his work for the Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV) included the management of forestry projects and responsibilities for the financial administration of the field office. After a comprehensive evaluation assignment in the Republic of Yemen (1993) he joined one of the major Dutch funding NGOs, (Oxfam)Novib, in 1994. Within Novib his responsibilities included a sectorally diverse portfolio covering various countries in southern Africa.
