Jan Hoekema

Job Title: Supervisory Board Member

Mr Hoekema is a member of the Supervisory Board of the NIMD since 15 April 2011.

Mr Hoekema studied sociology in Leiden. In 1977 he came to work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a job he combined with his D66 party membership of the city council of Leiden. In 1989 he was appointed Director of UN Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In 1994 he was elected to the House of Representatives for D66, where he was mainly concerned with foreign affairs, defense and domestic governance. In 2003 he became director of cultural cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In July 2007 he was appointed mayor of Wassenaar.
